“TABA Plantae Documentary 2024 – Contemporary Botanical Art Exhibition“ Call for Entry!

The TABA created a botanical art exhibition record in Taiwan and set off a wave of plant science and aesthetics in early 2023. Now "TABA Plant Documentary 2024─Contemporary Plantae Documentary 2024" (TABA Plantae Documentary 2024) is open for your submissions!

The vision of the TABA is to promote botanical art to be recognized as an art field significant and valued that has made a significant contribution to the creation of art in the 21st century. Botanical art plays a unique role on ecology and science related education, and aesthetic life enrichment. Therefore, it has become an important task of TABA to hold high-quality botanical art exhibitions to the public. It is TABA's task to make the works of artists who insist on creation become the beauty that everyone yearns for. At the same time, TABA also seek cooperation with various parties in the society to jointly organize exhibitions, and launch a feast that combines rational science and aesthetic perception.

"Plantae Documentary —The Contemporary Botanical Painting Art Exhibition" is the largest art exhibition organized by TABA every year for botanical artists. It is the most indicative botanical art exhibition in the country. In this event, TABA is calling for entries of excellent botanical painting art works from the public, regardless of region, nationality, and membership. Besides the participation after review and selection, TABA also prepares awards for you to win, including certificates of merit, trophy and media publicity.

Followings are the details for artists from overseas:  

1. Subject: Plants (any)  

2. Application period：2023/9/4 (10:00am) ~2023/12/8 (6:00pm)  

3. Exhibition period：     

a. Changhua Station: 2024/2/2~2024/3/5 in “Chengmei Art Gallery” (No. 60, Section 2, Zhongshan Road, Yongjing Township, Changhua County) Opening ceremony: 2024/2/17 1:30pm     

b. Taitung Station: 2024/3/21~2024/4/9 in "National Taitung Living Art Center"

c. Taipei Station: Time (TBD) in Jazz Image Gallery (tentative)  

4. Format: It must conform to the botanical painting art format, with accurate and true illustration of plant morphology as the first priority, and in line with aesthetic appreciation values. 

5. Medium: Any (pencil, colored pencil, watercolor, oil, pastel, paper, canvas, digital...) , but photography and AI-generated images will not be accepted.  

6. Size: No smaller than A4 size the longest side of the original painting must not exceed 85 cm.  

7. Date of Creation: Must be the works done within three years.  

8. Submission:               

a. High-definition image electronic files (tif, jpg) as the object of review, with a resolution of not less than 300 dpi.     

b. Each person is limited to 3 picture files. If you submit more than 3, TABA will select 3 pictures as the targets for review.     

c. The applicant must promise that the copyright of the image file belongs to the applicant. If there is any violation, the legal responsibility shall be borne by the applicant.     

d. Artworks can be published before.     

e. Indicate the correct Latin scientific name of the plant in the image file (Note). Electronic files must use "artist’s name_Plant scientific name" as the naming rule.     

f. Fill out the entry form in English and attach the electronic image file as email attachments, and submit to admin@npotaba.online with the subject of the email as "Submission for Plant Documentary 2024_Artisit’s Name".     

g. The submission process is successful only after receiving reply from TABA, and the selection result will also be notified by the email you provided.  

9. Application fee: Free for artists from overseas.     

10. Result announcement: The selection results will be notified by 1/8 via email.      

11. Display (only for artists from overseas): Prints. TABA will be responsible for output and framing. The prints will not be returned to  the artists after the exhibition. The prints will be destryed with a proof one year later.  

12. Once the artwork is sold, the artist is responsible to the overseas shipping to TABA office and TABA is responsible for local delivery.   

13. TABA will charge 30% commissions. So please be reminded to include the commission into the price set.  

14. If any collector wants to buy your original arts, TABA will help on the deal.  

15. Exhibitors will receive a certificate of participation after fulfilling their participation obligations.

Legal Notices:

Review and selection are the professional right of the TABA. Once the results are released, no one is allowed to claim dissent or conduct slander or disruptive behavior.

All selected exhibitors have the responsibility to sign the participation agreement. Once signed, the exhibitors must fulfill the obligation to participate in the exhibition. If there is any violation of the agreement, they must compensate the TABA and the gallery for losses.

Once again reminding the importance of the copyright law, the TABA only accepts the application from the legal owner of the copyright. Any false claim that the work is original, the applicant shall bear all legal responsibilities, and shall be responsible for the damage compensation of all parties whose rights and interests are damaged.
